From evidence and research, Families for Children know that most adopters and children will need support during their lives. Our services are proactive and preventative in approach to meet these needs.
Our wraparound support service offers a range of support, from just being there at the end of a telephone to advising and guiding you through any situation you find yourself in as an adoptive parent. We aim to respond within 24 hours (working days) following a request for support.
Our specialist, therapeutic support service includes a multi-disciplinary team who are skilled and experienced in working with children who have experienced trauma and attachment difficulties.
Referrals to both services can be made through your Families for Children social worker or by contacting the Families for Children office on 01364 645480.
Who uses Lopwell Barn?
During the week the barn is used to develop youth focussed one-to-one and group activities. These activities will link in with our wider therapeutic interventions and to develop therapeutic residential opportunities for families.
The space enables us to work with our therapists and a parallel process to work with children and young people doing outdoor programmes which could include bushcraft, paddle boarding, kayaking, woodworking and many other activities.
Lopwell Barn is an ideal venue for us to be able to offer specialist training for adoptive parents or professionals as well as a weekend retreat for our families.
The models we have used for adoption support can additionally be used across other forms of permanence such as Special Guardianship and Long Term Fostering – so if you are interested in seeing what you could access the Barn for, get in touch.
