Coracle Making Course
February 15, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
Build a Welsh style coracle using simple tools and techniques. The coracle has been around for thousands of years, evolving as a cheap, simple boat consisting of a basket frame, a seat and a waterproof cover. Although traditionally used for fishing, Lopwell Barn here in Devon has discovered they offer a beautiful way to explore nature on the River Tavy.
A training weekend in the art of coracle construction will give you the skills to select suitable willow and hazel rods, learn techniques for bending them to shape, fixing and shaping the hull and tailoring the calico cover. You will also have a chance to try one of our fleet of coracles in the water and will leave with your own finished coracle ready for painting.

There is no charge to make the coracle but if anyone wants to take it away there’s a £75 charge for materials. As always we are a charity so donations welcome.
